BPI Certification Training

AppleBlossom Energy is an affiliate of the Building Performance

Institute, Inc., an organization that provides nationally recognized BPI training for certification, accreditation and quality-assurance programs within the building industry. BPI affiliates are experts in their field that help raise the bar in home performance contracting, making homes healthier, safer, more comfortable and more energy efficient.

AppleBlossom Energy is dedicated to advancing the BPI mission. We are a full service "Home Performance" company offering training for BPI Certification, HERS Raters training, Infrared Camera training, plus full Home Performance service for the residential and commercial market. Our company offers wet and dry cellulose insulation installation, air sealing, and HVAC/AC installations.

For BPI and HERS training we have built a small test "House of Pressure" at our Concord facility. This lab allows our trainer to teach duct testing, blower door testing, CAZ pressure testing, and combustion appliance testing in a real lab setting.

BPI Training is Currently Offered at the Concord, NC Location & at Warren Wilson College in Asheville. We have recently started offering our BPI Training in Fredrick, MD.

BPI Analyst Training and Testing
This a a 5 day training session which will lead to lead to certification as a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Certification. This course will help students have a full understanding of building science principles, health and safety issues, BPI requirements and guidelines, envelope and duct leakage testing, insulation evaluation, and combustion safety testing. At the end of the Building Analyst I training students interested in certification will be given a written exam and will be tested in the field to show they have the knowledge and skills required by BPI to obtain certification.

FAQ’s

Question: What background in Home Performance do I need to be able to pass the exams?

Answer: Our students have come with no experience in building science and have been able to pass the exams. Our pass rate is 95%.

Question: Do I need to do any preparation before coming to the course?

Answer: If you are new to Building Performance, it helps to study Krigger’s book – Residential Energy. This textbook will be sent to you prior to the course, if you sign up two weeks prior to class start date. Otherwise, it will be provided on the first day of class.

Question: What if I do not own a laptop computer?

Answer: AppleBlossom can provide a limited number of laptops for taking the test.
